Friday 5 May 2023

Week ending 5th May 2023

 Hello everyone,

It has been a busy week with lots of exciting activities being carried out. Year One have enjoyed their PE lessons learning The Morris Dance for the celebration.

This week we have continued to work on measuring, as we explored mass. The children have also learned to measure length in centimetres.

The beanstalk stories have been completed and it was great to see so many different ideas.

This week the children learned about the different vegetables that can be used in salad. They designed their own salad and have given me a shopping list so that I can get the ingredients for salad making next week.

Our history lesson focus was on The Tudor Period and Queen Elizabeth 1. They were very interested in finding out how tough life was then.

NEXT WEEK

Phonics booster lessons

If your child has been invited to the phonics booster sessions you will have received a letter this week. Each child will be attending twice a week. The sessions will begin at 8.25am. Please ensure your child attends on time. These sessions will continue until mid-June after the phonics screening for Year One.

Class Assembly

The children are so excited to share their work with you on Friday 19th May. If your child has a speaking part please practise with them as it will boost their confidence.

Book Bags

Please ensure that your child brings his/her book bag into school every day. The bag must contain the reading record, the library book and the reading book.

Maths

Next week we will be exploring equal and unequal groups.

English

The children will be writing a recount of their trip to Willows Farm.

We will be beginning a new book ' Anancy and Mr Dry-Bone' by Fiona French. This is a traditional African tale. The children will be discussing the dramatic illustrations, the moral of the story and the characters. They will be writing a list of the items Anancy borrows in his quest to win the heart of Miss Louise.

History

Queen Victoria will be our focus, as the children write diaries of her day to day life.

D and T

The children will be creating their own vegetable salads according to their designs. They will make the salads and take them home the same day.

I am posting some more photos from our fabulous day at Willows Farm.

Enjoy the bank holiday weekend.
