Hello Year One,

 

We have had a fantastic week! On Thursday we were invited to Christ Church to experience Harvest through a variety of activities. The children were given the opportunity to look at harvest from the sea, the earth, the grain and from animals. We had a lovely morning and the children were so well behaved. Well done Year 1!











































NEXT WEEK


English

To celebrate National Poetry Day on Thursday 5th October, the children will be learning about rhyming couplets.

 

Maths

The children will be counting backwards within 10 and finding 1 less.

 

RE

The children will continue to learn about harvest traditions.

 

Science

Drawing and labelling the basic parts of the human body.

 

In phonics this week the children were looking at the following tricky words:

  • was
  • they
  • some
  • come
  • were
  • there

 Could you please practice reading these words at home.  Thank you for your continued support.

Good afternoon,

We have had a very busy week and the children have worked so hard. Well done everyone!

 

Next week, in English the children will be writing descriptive words and phrases about a character from the story Farmer Duck. They will also continue to practise their letter formation and handwriting.

 

The daily phonic lessons are going really well. This week they reviewed the phase 3 digraphs sh, zz, ss, qu, ng, ck, th, ng, nk . They also revised the tricky words what, when, he, she, we, be, me, have and love.

Next week, the children will start phase 4.

In Maths, the children were counting objects and representing the amount on a tens frame. 

Next week, the children will learn to recognise numbers as words, count on from any number, count backwards from 10 and be introduced to the language 1 more.

The children will continue to find out about being thankful and harvest traditions.

On Thursday, the children will be visiting Christ Church at 10am to partake in experience Harvest.

 

History

The children will find out about the toys that their parents and grandparents may have played with.

Hello,

We have had another busy week in Year 1. The children have been visiting other classrooms for friendship groups and voting for their house team captains.

In English the children began to read the story Farmer Duck by Martin Waddell and Helen Oxenbury. They were able to identify the repetitive phrases in the story and went on to make fantastic predictions about what will happen next in the story. On Monday, they will be finding out how the story ends.

Next week, the children will begin to have handwriting lessons. They will be forming the letters s, a and t in sand and then writing them.

 

The children began their phonics lessons this week. They revised the digraphs ai, ee, igh, oa, oo, oo, ar, or, ur, ow, er, oi, ear, air and ear. They also reviewed the tricky words no, go, so, my, by, to, into out and the.

Next week, the children will continue to revise the above digraphs and also sh, zz, ss, qu, ng, ck, th, ng, nk.

 

In maths, the children were sorting and counting objects.

Next week, the children will count objects from a larger group and represent the amount on a tens frame. 

 

Science

Animals will be our focus next week. The children will sort them into the categories listed below:

-          Mammals

-          Birds

-          Fish

-          Reptiles

-          Amphibians

-          insects

RE

The children will find out about being thankful and harvest traditions.

 

Reminder

On Friday morning your children will be having their individual photographs taken.

Hello and welcome to Year 1!

The children have had a lovely start to the new school year and a very busy week. They were all excited to see each other and it was lovely seeing them spending time with each other again. They have settled in very well and are picking up the new routines quickly.

 

Year 1 have been busy exploring their classroom and their new outside area. They have particularly enjoyed building with the big and small Lego, modelling with play dough, planting daffodil bulbs and writing and drawing in the writing area.
