The children looked amazing in their red items of clothing. Thank you for your kind donations.



 It was wonderful to meet so many of you at the parent consultation this week. The children have settled in so well to Year 1!

Next term- an insight into what the children will learning


Maths – Place value within 10, addition and subtraction within 10, 2D and 3D shapes

 

English – Narrative-stories with predictable phrasing

The children will be making predictions, and continue to learn about how to construct a sentence. They will be writing a letter, creating instructions and explaining the events that occurred in a story.

Phonics lessons will take place every day. Group reading will be carried out three times a week and handwriting lessons will take place three times a week

 

Science –  Seasonal changes and the weather

 

History– The children will be learning about Castles

 

R.E. – The children will be learning about Diwali, Hanukkah and Christmas.

  

Art –  We will be learning about the artist Claude Monet and will look at a selection of his work

 

D&T- The children will make sliders to create a moving picture. They will also be making Christmas cards with a lever mechanism

 

PSHE – Celebrating differences

 

ICT – Using technology and using the internet

 

Spellings

Next term, the children will be given a set of spellings every Friday.

Hello everyone, we have had a very busy but fun week. On Tuesday, the children enjoyed visiting other classes for friendship groups and today they watched the Year 5 assembly.

 

In phonics this week the children reviewed the Phase 5 graphemes ay, ou, oy and ea. They also revised the tricky words all, are, I, of, one, here and today.

 

Next Week

 

English

The children will be writing about characters from the book Farmer Duck. They will be forming sentences and concentrating on the correct punctuation.

 

Maths

The children will be counting backwards within 10.

 

Science

The children will be investigating if the oldest children in the class are the tallest.

Also, we will be focusing on the changes to the weather, the environment and wildlife in the season of Autumn.

 

Art

Creating a firework picture.

 

PHSE

The children will be learning about the rights and responsibilities when being a member of a class. They will write and draw a picture of themselves learning well with their friends


Notes

Please ensure that all belongings are named clearly. The children have begun changing into their PE kits and many items of their school uniform were unnamed.

 Good afternoon,

 

It was lovely to see so many of you this morning at the Harvest Festival Coffee morning. The children have loved learning their songs and I’m sure you will agree that they sang beautifully. Well done everyone!

 

The daily phonic lessons are going really well. This week the children began learning the Phase 5 graphemes ay, ou, oy and ea. They also revised the tricky words said, says, you, do, like, little, push, put, full and pull.

I have sent home a list of the tricky words. Please continue to practise them at home. Thank you!

 

Next Week

 

English

The children will be learning about nouns, verbs and plurals.

 

Maths

The children will focus on the vocabulary fewer, more, less and the same.

 

Science

Identifying the parts of the body they use to see, hear, taste, smell and feel.

 

History

Finding out what toys were like at different times in the past.


PSHE

The children will be exploring differences and how they make us all special and unique.
