26th March 2021

 Hello Year One,

It is hard to believe we have reached the end of term already! The children are so excited for Easter and we have had a fabulous week creating Easter cards, singing Easter songs and dancing!

We have also created a huge dragon display. We have been using shapes to make dragon pictures, learning adjectives to describe dragons, interviewing dragons and writing reports. This has been a two week English project, which the children have thoroughly enjoyed.

Below are some photos of the activities.

  • Overall the children have settled back well. There are just a few reminders for you.
Reminders

  • The children must have full PE kits in school at all times. They have PE three times a week. They need jogging bottoms, a sweatshirt, trainers, shorts, a t-shirt and plimsols.
  • Please ensure that the book bags are brought into school every day. It would be great if you could read with your child every day and write any comments in the orange reading record. The books are changed every Monday and Thursday.
  • On Fridays the children bring a list of spellings home. Please could you ensure that your child practices these at least a couple of times a week. We also practice the spellings at school at least twice a week. On Fridays they have a spelling test.
I will be writing a blog towards the end of the holidays. Until then I wish you all a very happy Easter break!

Friday 19th March 2021

 Hello Year One,

We have had a busy week as we have been exploring 'dragons' and writing questions for them. We interviewed dragons and found out so much about where they live, what they eat and what they do. We will be writing a report about dragons next week!

We have been counting in twos, and tens. The children have learned to count back from twenty to zero!

As it will soon be Easter we have been finding out about the Easter story. The children remembered this well and next week they will write a recount of the story.

The spellings are going well. Thank you for working with them at home on this. We also practice them three times a week in school, so by Friday the children are familiar with them.

Next week we will be continuing our report writing about dragons, writing the Easter story, drawing and labelling a map of a farm and for maths we will focus on money.

Reminders

I know I asked for the books to come in on Mondays and Thursdays for changing, but I do need them in every day as we aim to hear the children read as often as possible. They need to bring their books in every day, but will only change them on Mondays and Thursdays.

There are several children who do not have PE kits in school. As the weather is improving the children will be outside for their lessons and they do need a full kit.

Fun Times

I thought you may like to see some more photos from science week and World Book Day.

Wishing you a happy and restful weekend.

Welcome Back Year One

 Welcome back!

It has been a fantastic week. The children have returned full of excitement and fun! They have settled extremely well and have thoroughly enjoyed all the science activities and  World Book Day. I have posted some pictures of the fabulous times we have had this week.

As you can see we have had a fun all week. World Book Day was a huge success. We carried out many science experiments and turned cream into butter and milk into cheese!
We were able to have outdoor play and lots of free time so the children could socialise with their peers.
We went on a walk and collected sticks to make 'stick people' with just sticks and string!

Reminders

The children need to bring their reading bags and books in on Mondays and Thursdays only. The books will be changed on these days. We will be hearing the children read in groups and individually every day, but they do not need to bring them into school every day, only on Mondays and Thursdays.

The children need to have a full PE kit in school. They do not need to take it home every day, only when you want to wash it. As it is Spring they will need trainers and track suits for outdoor PE. As The weather becomes warmer they will need shorts and t-shirts.

We have a 'construction area' in the classroom as creating models and building is very popular. We will always want items such as toilet roll holders, small boxes, scraps of material etc

Next week we are spending our English lessons investigating, reading and writing about dragons. The final piece of writing will be a report on dragons. If you have any books, toys, pictures or games that are related to dragons it would be great if we could borrow them for the coming two weeks.

If anyone has spare uniform at home that is no longer worn please could you send it in to Year One. For many different reasons the children sometimes need to change their clothes and we have run out of spares!

I wish you all a restful weekend and look forward to seeing you next week.
