Friday 9 February 2024

 Good Evening Everyone,

In English the children have worked extremely hard, describing what they enjoyed about our new class story ‘How To Wash A Woolly Mammoth.’ They also wrote their own instructions and worked in pairs to listen and follow instructions carefully. This week was ‘Children’s Mental Health Week’ and the children’s learning focused on the core strengths of ‘Resilience, Self-Esteem and Growth Mind-Set’.

Next Week:

Maths- Understanding the numbers 11-20 and finding 1 more and 1 less.

Science- The children will be grouping materials.

Geography- Exploring the different places around the school.

Art- The children will be making sculptures using air-dry clay.

Saturday 3 February 2024

  Good Morning everyone,

I apologise for the delay in posting this blog. We had a very busy and productive week in Year 1. In Maths the children finished their topic based on 2D and 3D shapes. We also finished our English unit which was based on the story of ‘The Last Noo Noo.’ On Wednesday the children really enjoyed using the ipads. We talked about the importance of ICT safety and we read the story of ‘Clicking Chicken’ by Jeanne Willis and Tony Ross to reinforce this.  They practised switching the ipads on and logging in and out. In Science the children have been looking at materials and their properties. We talked about various objects and the materials they are made from.

Next Week:

Maths- The children will be starting a new topic which focus' on place value within 20.

English- The children will be starting a new topic focusing on instructions. The story ‘How To Wash A Woolly Mammoth’ by Michael Robinson will be our class text.

Science- Identify and name a variety of everyday materials, including wood, plastic, glass, metal, water and rock. They will also be describing the simple physical properties of a variety of everyday materials.

Big Garden Birdwatch- The children will be taking part in the RSPB’s national birdwatch. The Nursery and Reception children made bird feeders last week which attracted a variety of birds so we should spot a lot of different species.
