Week ending 15th July 2021

 Hello Year One,

As we are coming to the end of the school year we have had lots of work to complete and jobs to do. The children completed a comprehension on foxes, made books for a relative in their families and have been learning place value during our maths lessons. We went to explore Africa this week and the children tried out a tribal dance. They wrote about the culture, climate and food in Africa and drew some amazingly colourful pictures.

They have also been working from maths booklets which they haven't completed so I have sent them home for a rainy day in the holidays!

Next week we will be working our way through the list that the children created of their favourite activities. This includes songs, games, water play, play doh, jigsaws and parachute games. On Monday morning we will be watching Year Six play the teachers at rounders. After lunch we will have a our classroom cinema treat. Please let me know if your child cannot have popcorn, marshmellows or ice lollies.

On Tuesday we will continue with our fun activities and school ends at 2pm.

I wish you all a happy weekend.

Week Ending 9th July 2021

 Hello Year One,

What an exciting week we have had! It all began with sports day on Monday. The children enjoyed every moment and it was great to see them so happy and working together in teams.

This was followed by 'The Apprentice' on Thursday, which the children thoroughly enjoyed. It was the fun of choosing and ordering the goodies and waiting for them to be delivered that caused so much excitement. We have also had a week of football which the children are enjoying at home with family and friends.

This week we studied poetry for English and the children wrote some wonderful poems about being at the seaside. You will see the other project as the children have taken their 'My Mum' booklets home for you to enjoy. Next week we will move on to 'My Dad' or 'My Aunty' as the children asked if they could do another one! It was a very popular activity.
We will continue to work on number for maths, counting in twos, exploring place value to hundreds, tens and ones. The children will be given a Summer maths booklet to work through. If they do not complete it in school they can take it home and finish it over the holidays.
We will be continuing with daily phonics, handwriting sessions, spellings, comprehension, group reading and writing.

We will be continuing to study animals next week as we explore the food they eat.

Our final country is Africa as the children will learn about the climate and culture.

               End Of Term Treat

We will have lots of fun during the last couple of days at school. We will be playing games, have            some team building competitions and we will watch a movie. I will be giving the children         popcorn and marshmellows as a treat.  If you do not want you child to eat either one or both of these please let me know.

Good luck England! We are all hoping for a good result! I hope you all enjoy the football on Sunday and have a restful weekend.

         Ms Davis

Week ending 2nd July 2021

 Hello Year One,

I have missed you all this week. It has been a strange week without seeing you, but I have been teaching in Reception which is great because I know them all well now and they know me so it will be an easier transition for them in September.

I hope you have made the most of your time at home. I have been looking at your learning and it seems that you have worked hard.

Next Week

We have so many exciting things planned for next week, but still have lots of learning to do.

For maths we will be working with number, counting in tens, fives and twos. You will continue your poetry project for English and I have some fun ideas for writing poems.

We will be travelling to Africa to learn about their climate and culture.

We will be thinking about what God is like in our RE lesson.

For science you will continue with the project about animals as we sort them into different categories.

Sports Day

As you all know Monday will be Year One's turn for Sports Day! Make sure you have a full PE kit and trainers in school. Remember your water bottles too.

The Apprentice

Next Thursday, 8th July, Year 6 will be carrying out a treats and drinks sale. This is usually done as a whole school event in the hall but due to Covid, this year it will be classroom delivery only.

The items for sale all range between 50p - £1.50 each and the Year 6 children will be competing against each other to raise the most money. All profits made from the event will go to the charity chosen by the winning team. Cash payments will be taken on the day by the Year 6 children who will ensure they follow Covid secure guidelines.

The children in the class watched adverts made by the Year 6 children today, so they will probably have a good idea about what they would like to buy. Please support this event next week to raise much needed money for a very worthwhile cause.

Andrew Gradwell

Deputy Head teacher and Year 6 teacher

I wish you all a restful and happy weekend.
