I am happy to see all the children back in school after the long break. We have had a good start to Year 1 and I was glad to see that all the children came in confidently to the classroom in the morning on the second day of school. The children are having a great time playing together again and exploring the new classroom. We are learning the new rules and the routines gradually and the children seem to be settling in really well.
This half term we will base our learning on the Summer Term Reception curriculum. The children will be learning through play and we will have our daily phonics and maths sessions.
Next week we will go through Phase 2 and 3 letter sounds and we will focus on blending and segmenting.
We will practice letter formation daily following the Pen Pals programme.
In maths we will be measuring lengths using standard and non standard measuring tools.
Next week we will focus our learning on Paul Gaugin's picture- Road to Tahiti. This is an exciting whole school project and I am sure that the children will have a great time being involved in it.
PE kit
If you haven't done so yet, please bring your child's PE kit to school in a labelled bag. This bag will stay at school at all times. At the end of each half term the children will take it home for a wash.
Book bags
The children need to bring their book bags to school. We will change reading books twice a week: on Mondays and Thursdays. The children will choose two books to take home on both days.
The children shouldn't bring any other bags or rucksacks to school. We have too many bags on the pegs which makes it hard for the children to find their belongings, especially the PE kit. All they need to bring to school is a water bottle, a book bag ( Mondays and Thursdays), a coat, and a lunch box if having a packed lunch.
Please make sure that all items belonging to your child are clearly labelled.
Have a great weekend
Mrs Sheehan
