Hello all,

It has been a very busy and an exciting week at school. The children are now familiar with the new  building and with the new routines which makes our days at school run smoother.

This week our learning was based on Paul Gauguin's painting "Road in Tahiti". The children enjoy discussing the features of the painting and have created beautiful pieces of art work. One of the features which captured the children's imagination mostly was a volcano. We have agreed that we are going to research volcanoes and carry out a volcano experiment next week.

Phonics

During the week we have revisited Phase 2 letter sounds and have practised blending and segmenting. Next week we will move on to Phase 3 sounds and will apply our phonics knowledge in writing.

Each day we practise letter formation following the Pen Pals programme. So far we have practised letters: l,i,t,j,u,y,r,n,m,b,h,p. Please have pens and paper readily available at home so that the children can spontaneously engage in drawing and writing.

Maths

The children had fun taking part in variety of measuring activities. They especially enjoyed measuring the classroom using their bodies e.g. steps, elbows, hand span, etc.

Next week will combine measurement with 2D shapes.

Please note that the reading books will be changed on Mondays and Thursdays. The children don't need to bring their book bags to school on the other days.

When collecting your child please stand by the gate so your child and I can clearly see you. The pick up times are very busy and we want to avoid any accidents.

If you have any questions please send me an email.

Enjoy the sunshine!

Mrs Sheehan
