week beginning 8th October 2018

Hello Everyone,

The children have had a very exciting week. We completed the caterpillars for our DT project. The children decided to use string to thread them together and they all took part.
We had great fun at our harvest festival party. We have been learning about symmetry in maths and some of the children chose to make symmetrical designs for their fruit salads.

Maths

We have been working with shape and symmetry this week, alongside daily number work and carrying out sorting activities. Next week we will focus on number 0 -20, one less and one more than 20, sorting numbers to 20 and counting to 100 in tens. We will be playing number games to find missing numbers and to re-order muddled number lines.

English

Our English focus will be taken from the book 'Farmer Duck.' The children will be coming up with ideas for story endings and will be looking at patterns in stories. They will be writing or drawing story maps of their own. The topic will be losing something. If you have any memories of your child losing a toy or something special it would be really helpful to remind them of that time.

Science

We learned the parts of the human body this week. Next week we will look at characteristics of animals and the reasons for them.

History

The children will be sorting toys into different categories next week. We also have a guest speaker coming to share experiences of toys from the past.

RE

We celebrated harvest this week so will follow this up by looking at how different religions have a variety of festivals and traditions to give thanks.

The children are still not drinking the milk. If you are paying for this it seems a waste. Check with your child as to whether he/she wants to continue to have school milk.

Thank you for all the harvest festival contributions. We collected a really great range of products for those less fortunate than ourselves.

I wish you all a restful weekend.

Ms Davis
