Week beginning 15th October 2018

Hello Everyone,

The children have enjoyed learning about Lowry this week and could explain many features of his paintings. They used charcoal to re-create the smoky, grey affect that he portrayed. They used the tip of the charcoal to draw the little matchstick figures.

Maths

We have been playing lots of number games this week, focussing on re-ordering numbers to 21. The children are beginning to form numbers correctly and write the name of numbers to ten.
Next week we will be sorting and grouping, making Venn diagrams and producing pictograms following class research.

English

The children are beginning to write stories. This week I read the first half of 'Farmer Duck' and the children had to create the end of the story. They managed this well, with most of them throwing the lazy farmer into a swimming pool! Next week we will be re-creating our own version of 'Handa's Surprise' and describing our dreams about changing something to make life better.

Next week is 'Equity week.' As a school we will be celebrating difference. It is also the beginning of 'Black history month' so our activities will be linked to these events. We have lots of exciting plans which I am sure the children share with you.

I have returned all the parent consultations times to you. I do apologise if you did not get the time you asked for. The later part of the afternoon/evening was very popular. If your appointment is not at all convenient please come and see me and I am sure we can re-schedule for another time.

I hope you have a restful and happy weekend.
Many thanks
YDavis
