Week beginning 26th November 2018

Hello Year One,

We have had a wonderful week! The children wrote beautiful Autumn poems and have clearly learned so much about this season.

We went for a walk around the school grounds, identifying and collecting leaves.

We brought the leaves back to the class room and mixed red and yellow paints to make a warm orange colour. We painted the leaves and printed them on to paper.

The leaf pictures and poems will be displayed in our classroom for you to see at the next open
     evening.

For maths we have been learning about position and measuring lengths.

We have also begun rehearsals for the Christmas Concert, which the children are enjoying.

  Next Week

Maths

We will be adding 1, 2 and 3 by counting on and subtracting 1, 2 and 3 by counting back. We will be adding three small numbers by spotting ten or doubles.

English

The children will be given a poem which has been cut up, which they will re-order according to the rhymes. We will focus on a bank of rhyming words about sea creatures. The children will create their own poems about sea creatures using rhyming words.

Science

Our focus will be Winter this week. We will be reading books , watching videos and discussing what happens to the trees and plants in Winter. We will think about the weather in Winter and what happens to animals.

Geography

What happens on a farm during the different seasons.

Art

The children will be making programmes for the Christmas Concert.

The rehearsals for the concert will increase as we approach performance day.

When you have your child's costume ready please send it into school in a named bag.

I must apologise with regard to our trip to the farm. I have been contacting many local farms and have discovered they are all closed to the public for the Winter months. I did not realise they would shut. It has been agreed that next year the farm topic will be carried out in the Spring so that a trip to a farm can be incorporated. I have explained this to the children.

Don't forget the maths evening at 7pm on Tuesday 27th November.

I hope you have a restful and happy weekend.

Ms Davis
