 Hello everyone,

We’ve had a very busy and exciting week of learning in Year 1! The children have been working so hard – well done everyone!

English

This week, the children have been exploring the story Beegu by Alexis Deacon. They used adjectives to describe Beegu’s appearance and discussed how she might have felt when her spaceship crashed. They also practiced writing speech bubbles. Alongside this, the children continued their daily phonics lessons, enjoyed three group reading sessions with an adult, and began handwriting lessons focusing on correct letter formation and pencil grip.

Maths

In Maths, the children have been recognising numbers written as words, counting on from any number, and finding 1 more and 1 less. They have also been practising forming numbers correctly.

PSHE

The children created beautiful drawings to represent the people and places that make them feel special and safe.

Year 6 House Captain

On Thursday, the children had fun visiting other classrooms to place their votes for the Year 6 House Captain.

Next week

English

The children will explore the story Alan’s Big Scary Teeth by Jarvis. They will use adjectives to describe Alan, create wanted posters and make animal fact files.

Maths

We will compare groups by matching, explore concepts like fewer, more, and the same, and compare numbers. We’ll also continue practising how to form each number correctly

History

The children will be learning about the toys their parents, carers, and grandparents played with when they were children. If you could talk with your child about your favourite toys from when you were young, it would be lovely for them to share what they found out during the carpet time.

R.E

We will learn about thankfulness and harvest traditions in preparation for Harvest festival.

PSHE

Continuing with our topic “Being Me in My World,” the children will think about belonging to the Year 1 class community.

Reminders

Reading Books: Please return all reading books and reading logs to school by Wednesday. Thank you!

Tricky Words: Your child has been given the tricky words we’ve been practising this week. It would be wonderful if you could spend some time reviewing these at home. New sets will be sent home at the end of each week.

Harvest Festival

Years 1 & 2- Friday 3rd October @ 9:30

We hope you all have a fantastic weekend!
