Hello Everyone,

The children in Year 1 had yet another busy week. In English, the children wrote down some questions they would like to ask ‘Traction Man’. They also made Thank-you cards for the Granny in the story.

In Maths, the children continued to learn about part whole models. They were also introduced to the symbols ‘+’ and ‘=’ and used them in number sentences.

In Science, the children learnt about mammals, reptiles, birds, fish and amphibians.

The children have been very creative this week; they made Autumn trees by finger painting for our ‘Seasons’ display. They really enjoyed having their hands painted! They also used chalk to make beautiful firework pictures.

 Hello everyone,

We have had a very busy but fun-filled week in Year One.

In English, the children have really enjoyed reading the book ‘Traction Man’ by Mini Grey. They have written lovely sentences containing exciting adjectives to describe the character and used ‘because’ and ‘and’ to extend their sentences. They have also learnt about proper nouns. In phonics this week the children reviewed the Phase 5 graphemes ‘ay’, ‘ou’, ‘oy’ and ‘ea’. They also revised the tricky words ‘all’, ‘are’, ‘I’, ‘of’, ‘one’, ‘here’ and ‘today’.

In Science, the children have been learning about the season of ‘Autumn.’ In the afternoon, we went outside in the beautiful sunshine to sketch what the trees in the playground look like in this season. We will sketch the same trees again in Winter, Spring and Summer to observe the changes from Season to Season

 Hello,

It was lovely to see so many of you this morning at the Harvest Festival coffee morning. The children have loved learning their songs and I’m sure you will agree that they sang beautifully.

On Thursday we were invited to Christ Church to experience Harvest through a variety of activities. The children were given the opportunity to look at harvest from the sea, the earth, the grain and the flock. We had an amazing morning and the children were so well behaved. Well done Year 1!
