Week ending 23rd June 2023

 Hello Year One,

It has been a hot and busy week.  The children were quite tired by this afternoon.

They have been working on fractions for maths and have been finding halves and quarters of amounts.

For English we are currently working on sentence structure. Each week the children are improving! They also wrote book reviews.

In Geography we travelled to Australia. This seemed to be a popular choice. They remembered so much and wrote several sentences about the features and characteristics of the country.

We covered the differences between males and female animals and humans in our PHSE lesson.

For art we explored the three primary colours.

Sports Day

The children loved sports day and had so much fun.

NEXT WEEK

English

We begin a week of poetry next week. We will be listening to poems, reciting poetry and working on creating rhyming couplets before we begin writing our own poems.

Maths

Next week the children will be learning about fractions of shapes. They will be finding halves and quarters of different shapes.

Art

Last week we explored the primary colours, so we will now create secondary colours. The children will complete a colour wheel using water colour paints.

Geography

We will travel to Africa. We will be exploring the types of animals that live in Africa. We will locate this continent on a world map. We will learn about the features and characteristics of Africa.

RE

The children will be listening to different creation stories and we will be discussing them.

I hope you have a restful and happy weekend
Ms Davis
