Good evening everyone,

 

What a busy week we have had in Year 1! The children were absolutely amazing in their Christmas production of 'Lights, Camel, Action!' They all thoroughly enjoyed dancing to and singing the songs, well done everyone! They will be performing it one last time to the whole school on Monday.

 

Today we had our Christmas Jumper Day and lunch. The children really enjoyed the yummy Christmas food, crackers and fun. In the afternoon we watched ‘The Grinch’ together.

Christmas Party

On Monday we will be having a Christmas party. The children can bring party clothes to school that day. They need to come to school in uniform and will change for the party after lunch.

 

Panto Bus

On Wednesday the Panto Bus will be visiting the school and the children will be watching a pantomime performance of ‘Dick Wittington.’

We have had such a lovely week as we have continued to rehearse for our Christmas performance, 'Lights, Camel, Action!’ We are really looking forward to presenting it to you all next Tuesday and Wednesday.

 

The children have really enjoyed reading the book ‘The Jolly Christmas Postman’ by Janet & Allan Ahlberg. They wrote a Christmas wish and made a Christmas card for Baby Bear. We will continue to use this book next week in our learning.

The children have had a fun week practising their dances and songs for the Christmas performance. They are very excited to perform to an audience!

 

In English, the children finished their non-fiction unit based on the book ‘Plenty of love to go around’. They wrote labels, lists, captions and explored the features of non-fiction books. In Phonics, the children have been reviewing the Phase 5 graphemes and tricky words they have learnt so far during this half term.

Good Evening,

 

This week, the children found out their roles in the Christmas production which they were very excited about. I am so impressed with how well they have learnt their songs and dances. Today, the children looked fantastic in their own clothes! Thank you so much for all your generous donations for the Christmas Hampers.

 

In phonics this week the children have learnt the digraphs ew, ie, aw and the split digraph e_e. They have also learnt the tricky words mouse, house, water and want.

 

In Maths they have been learning about whole and part models, bar models and have been finding number bonds within 10.

 

Next Week:

Maths- The children will focus on addition. They will explore the vocabulary associated with addition and solve addition problems.

 

English- The children will continue with their non-fiction topic which focuses on Labels, Lists and Captions.

 

Art- We will be creating a picture in the style of L.S. Lowry.

 

RE- We will begin to learn about another festival of light as we listen to the story behind the celebration of Hannukah.

 

History- The children will be learning about the different parts of a castle.

What a fun week we have had! It all started on Monday with 'Odd Socks Day.' We discussed the reason we were all wearing odd socks and what makes us special and unique. The children looked amazing in their spotty clothes today. Thank you for your kind donations towards Children in Need.

 

In phonics this week the children have learnt the split digraphs a_e, i_e, o_e and u_e. They have also learnt the tricky words ‘could, would, should’ and ‘our’. We finished our narrative unit which was based around the book ‘Farmer Duck’. The children worked hard this week writing a postcard recounting the events of the story.

 

Next Week:

Maths- The children will continue to learn about part-whole models, write number sentences and explore number addition number facts.

 

English- The children will begin their non-fiction topic which focuses on Labels, Lists and Captions.

 

Science- Identify animals that are Carnivores, Herbivores and Omnivores.

 

Art- We will be looking at the work of L.S Lowry.

 

D&T- The children will begin to make their own story slider mechanism. They will hear the story of 'The Gingerbread Man' and create a moving picture to show a part of the story.

 Good afternoon,

The children have worked very hard this week. On Monday, we had our first sharing assembly. Well done to the children who stood up in front of the whole school and talked about their amazing work.

 

On Wednesday, the children had an assembly about Remembrance Day. They took part in a one-minute silence today at 11am where they were reverent and reflective.

 

In phonics this week the children have learnt the alternative pronunciations for the graphemes o, i, a and e. They also learnt the tricky words Mr, Mrs, Ms and Ask.

Next Week

Maths- The children will be introduced to parts and wholes, write number sentences and explore number addition number facts.

 

English- Our focus will be on recognising adjectives and writing a postcard which recounts events as we continue to work from the book 'Farmer Duck.'

 

History- The children will find out about castles that were built by the Normans.

 

PSHE- Monday is Odd Sock Day which raises awareness of anti-bullying. The children will be looking at what makes us all unique and special.

 

Art/RE- As we have been learning about Diwali we will be creating rangoli patterns with chalk pastel crayons.

Half Term project

This term we are studying castles in History. For your half term project, we would like you to create your own castle. Please feel free to be as imaginative as you would like! This could be a model, no bigger than a shoe box, or a drawing up to A3 in size. You could include some of the following features:

·       moat

·       drawbridge

·       high walls

·       turrets

·       battlements

·       towers

·       portcullis

 

If you have any questions about this project, please do not hesitate to come and see me. The completed project needs to be returned to school on Monday 8^th January 2024.

Good afternoon,

 The children have had a very busy first week back at school. On Wednesday, we went to the Tower of London to participate in a workshop called Knights and Castles. The children were amazed to see the Crown Jewels and they had the opportunity to speak to a Beefeater in full uniform. She told the children about the legend of the ravens which states that the kingdom and the Tower of London will fall if the six resident ravens were ever to leave! Also, she told them about a raven called Jubilee who had built their nest on top of the building which contains the Crown Jewels. It was a wonderful day and the children were extremely well behaved.

Next week

English – The children will continue to work from the book ‘Farmer Duck,’ exploring sentence structure. We will also focus on recognising and using verbs and adjectives.

Maths – Compare numbers, order objects and numbers and they will be introduced to number lines.

RE- The children will be learning about Diwali.

Science- Sorting animals into the categories of fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals.
