Week ending 17th June 2022

 Hi Year One,

It has been a hot week, so we made good use of the water tray to cool down in the afternoons.

We had a great English project this week. We read the story called 'Not a Stick' again and began by role playing using our changing stick in different situations. We followed this by going and searching for special sticks and using our imaginations to change our sticks into wonderful, useful objects!

We took the sticks to the outdoor learning area and used role play to show how we would use our changed sticks. We had drummers, sword fighters, magicians, artists and baton twirlers!

We went back to class and wrote about our changing sticks.

Next week we will be writing an imaginative story about being lost, finding a stick and explaining how the stick changes into something useful that will help us.

We learned about Asia in our geography lesson. Our focus was China and the children were able to give clear explanations about what they would do and see if they went there for a trip.

In maths we have been making equal groups and sharing within groups.

The children learned about animal diets and were able to sort into three categories using a venn diagram. They learned the difference between herbivores, carnivores and omnivores.

For RE we read the story of 'The Good Samaritan' and learned the moral behind this story. The children we able to write excellent recounts of this and all remembered the moral to the story.

NEXT WEEK

English

The children will continue to write and improve upon their stories. They will use adjectives and have a clear beginning, middle and ending.

Maths

We will be sharing in unequal groups and recognising remainders next week.

RE

The children will hear, role play and write the Christian story of Jonah and the Whale.

ART

The primary and secondary colours will be our art focus next week.

Geography

We will be travelling to Australia next week, so if any of you have anything from home that the children could bring into school that would be great.

Science

Animals will be grouped and their habitats will be recognised.

PSHE

The children will be learning about their changing bodies this term. Next week it would be great if they could bring in a photo of when they were babies as they will be recognising and drawing the changes that have occurred.

I wish you all a restful weekend.
