Merry Christmas to you all,

What an exciting end to the first term in Year 1! The children were absolutely amazing in their Christmas production of Bethlehem Buzzin’. They thoroughly enjoyed singing and performing the songs and I’m sure you’ll agree they were all fantastic. Well done to everyone!

The children also had a wonderful time at their Christmas party on Tuesday and were very excited to receive a special visit from Father Christmas.

Thank you also for the generous gifts, cards and kind words that we have received – they are greatly appreciated.

We wish you all a joyful and peaceful Christmas with your families and a Happy New Year.

Friday, 5 December 2025

 Hello everyone,

It’s been a lovely week in Year 1! The children have really enjoyed decorating the classroom in preparation for Christmas and have loved searching for our cheeky elf each morning. They have also been very busy preparing for our Christmas show, ‘Bethlehem’s Buzzin’, and are extremely excited to perform in front of an audience.

In English, the children have been learning to use capital letters for people’s names and places. They also gave thoughtful and helpful advice to a character from the story I Want My Hat Back.

In Geography, the children created their own maps of the school. They included important features, used simple shapes and symbols to create a key, and used directional language to describe where things were.

In PSHE, the children identified similarities and differences between people in our class. They talked about appearances, hobbies, interests, favourite foods and families, and showed great respect for one another’s ideas.

Well done, Year 1, for another fantastic week!

Next Week in Year 1

English – The children will plan and begin writing their own version of the story I Want My Hat Back.

Maths – We will be consolidating our learning on place value.

PSHE – The children will discuss what bullying is, understand how being bullied might feel, and learn about the trusted people they could talk to if they were feeling unhappy or being bullied.

Design & Technology – The children will be learning how to safely handle and prepare a variety of fruits and vegetables.

Geography – The children will investigate how they feel about the playground. They will complete a questionnaire and then summarise their results.

RE – The children will continue learning about the Christmas story.

Art – The children will be making brochures for our Christmas play.
