Week ending 31st March 2023

 Happy Easter to you all!

The children had a fabulous final week of term and we ended with games and dancing!

Reading Books/Book Bags

Please could you send the book bag in every day from now on as we have changed our process and it will make it easier to have everything here every day. Please ensure that your child's reading book, library book and reading record are in the bag every day.

D and T project

Thank you all for supporting your children with their design project. The houses are amazing. The children learned so much from this and after Easter they will evaluate their products.

Every child presented their home to the rest of the class and were thrilled to answer questions on their designs.

They were all so interested in the huge variety of homes that were made and they loved praising each other for their finished products.

We will be sharing the homes in our class assembly in May.

Class Assembly

Year One will present their work to you during our class assembly on Friday 19th May at 9am. I am giving you lots of notice in case you need to make arrangements. It will last for approximately 30 minutes.

Next Term

Geography field trip

As we learned about farms this term we will be visiting Willows Farm on Thursday 27th April. The children will need a packed lunch, two drinks and will need to wear school uniform for the trip. They can wear wellington boots or trainers, depending on the weather at the time.

English

Next term we will be learning the story 'Jack and the Beanstalk.' The children will sequence the story, create puppet shows of the story and role play the characters.

Maths

We will be learning to count in 2s, 5s and 10s. We will be noticing the patterns and will use coins to complete the project.

History

We will begin a new topic about famous queens. The children will be finding out about monarchs and where they live. This will be a great topic to carry out at the time of the King's coronation.

RE

The children will be learning about holy scriptures from different religions. They will learn faith stories from the Christian religion, such as 'Jonah and the Whale.'

Science

The children will be planting beans and exploring growth next term. They will write diaries of their beans development and explain the process of planting a bean. They will be learning what plants need to survive. They will learn about the parts of trees and flowers.

D and T

The children will be designing and making vegetable salads. They will need to ensure they appear appetising and attractive.

PHSE

We will be exploring relationships next term. we will begin by looking at friendship.

I will update you on the children's learning as the projects progress.

I wish you all a wonderful Easter break!

Week ending 10th March 2023

 Hello Year One,

We have had an amazing week. Our trip to the snow centre was fantastic!

The children loved every moment and had great fun!

As I didn't post a blog last week I have not yet shared our photos from World Book Day. This was another day full of fun and learning. We spent the day reading the story 'Alice in Wonderland' by Lewis Carroll. The children went on to work with Year Four as they were given direction for role play. The two classes worked well together and within an hour had performances ready!

We have been writing letters this week. We have written thank you letters, invitations and letters to friends. The children are really enjoying this English topic!
For maths we have been working on bar models and cherry models while finding the parts and the wholes.
We spent some time looking at 'new life.' We planted bulbs in November and daffodils have grown! We used water colour paints to paint observational drawings of these beautiful Spring flowers.
We have started to look at the Easter story for RE. The children are fascinated by this religious story.

Next Week

English

We will continue our letter writing topic as the children will be using draft copies to write final copies of thank you letters which will be delivered to Christ Church following the wonderful Baptism workshop they put on for us.
The children will be working on sentence structure and will write a letter to a friend in Year One. They will address the envelope and add a stamp. The letters will be posted, so expect a letter at some point in the next few days.

Maths

Next week we will begin a problem solving topic. The children will be identifying the start, the change and the result of problems. They will also be learning to work out possibilities and finding possibilities to solve a problem.

Science

The children will be estimating how much rainfall we will have in the coming week. This will be recorded in centimetres.

PHSE

As we have been learning about 'keeping healthy' next week we will be looking at the actions we need to carry out to keep ourselves clean.

RE

The children will write a recount of the Easter story.

Geography

We will be looking at the features of farms.

Spellings

I do apologise that the children did not take their spellings home today. I will hand them out on Monday and post them below. There are more children spending time learning their spellings at home and they are thrilled when they get a 'full house.' Please ensure your child learns his/her spellings every week.
