Week ending 9th December 2022

 Hello Everyone,

We have had such a lovely week as we have continued to rehearse for our Christmas performance 'Prickly Hay.'

We went to Christ Church on Thursday for 'The Nativity Story.' The children listened to the story and were able to look around the church and ask questions about what they found.

On Wednesday we had our Christmas lunch. The children enjoyed the food, crackers and fun. In the afternoon they watched a movie in the hall.

We have also managed to complete some pieces of work. The children wrote a story sequence for 'Farmer Duck.' They have created a history timeline from the age of the dinosaurs up to our recent topic on toys from the past. We have been working on equal amounts in maths.

We have finished the Little Wandle reading groups for this term. This week's books have been allocated to you. The children have taken home two library books that do not have to come back to school until after the holidays. From now until the return to school in January 2023 the children do not need to bring their book bags in.

We are looking forward to presenting our Christmas performance to you on Tuesday and Wednesday next week.

On Thursday we will be having a party. The children can bring party clothes to school that day. They need to come to school in uniform and will change for the party after lunch.

On Wednesday it is 'open afternoon' for parents and carers. You can come to the classroom from 3pm onwards. You will have the opportunity to look at your child's work.

We have been extremely lucky to have Ms Cooke working with us for the last seven weeks. Her final day will be Friday 16th December. I know the children will be sad to see her go.

I wish you all a restful weekend.
Ms Davis

Week ending 2nd December 2022

 Hello Year One,

We have had an interesting and mysterious week as an elf has joined our classroom. He has been playing tricks on us. I hope he doesn't make too much mess over the weekend!

The children have been working on 1:1 correspondence to find fewer a more than a given number. We have introduced the language of difference. They are learning to understand difference as the distance between two numbers.

We have been exploring nouns this week and the children have learned the vowels. They were able to locate the vowels in a variety of words. They began to sequence a story and next week they will complete this.

We have been rehearsing for our Christmas production this week. The children are excited to perform to an audience!

I have not given out spellings this week as next Friday we will be rehearsing so we will probably pick this up again in the new year. It does make such a difference to their results when they practise them at home.

NEXT WEEK

English

Next week the children will complete their story sequence. We will be creating a list of words about Christmas as the following week we will be writing Christmas poems.

Maths

We will be using language to express equivalent ways of making the same total. We will be making equal values and using symbols to record.

History

The focus will be on creating a timeline of the areas of history we study at Little Heath.

RE

The children will be writing the story behind the Jewish festival Hannukah.

Rehearsals

We will be rehearsing for The Christmas Production next week and making brochures for the audience.

I wish you all a happy weekend.
