What a lovely week we’ve had in Year 1!

On Thursday, we celebrated VE Day with a wonderful day of activities. The children looked fantastic dressed in red, white, and blue! We observed a respectful two-minute silence to remember the importance of this day, and we’re so proud of how mature and thoughtful the children were. The whole school came together for a playground picnic, enjoying music from the 1940s and playing traditional games—it was a wonderful afternoon.

In English, the children have been busy creating fact files about penguins and seals. They worked hard to include headings and wrote clear, informative sentences.

In Maths, we explored the concept of equal groups and practised making equal groups by sharing—a fun and hands-on way to build understanding of division and multiplication.

In RE, we began learning about the Qur’an, and the children showed great curiosity and respect.

In History, the children have been learning about the life of Queen Victoria. The children were full of questions and enthusiasm as they learned about her reign.

In Art, the children continued to explore colour mixing and took inspiration from Jasper Johns’ “Numbers in Colour”, recreating their own vibrant versions.

Next Week:
