Hello,

It’s been a great week of learning in Year 1! The children have continued to enjoy their daily swimming lessons, making great progress in the pool. It has been lovely to see their confidence grow in the water! Next Friday will be their final lesson and I’m sure they’ll miss their time in the water—it’s been such a highlight of the term!

In English, the children have been working hard on their writing. They created some fantastic similes to describe the waves from the story we’ve been reading. They also wrote compound sentences that included the word ‘but’ and worked on using adjectives to describe characters.

In Maths, we’ve been exploring the concept of halves. The children practiced finding halves of different shapes and quantities, and we had lots of fun with hands-on activities.

In History, the children had a fantastic time learning about Queen Elizabeth I's reign. They loved hearing about her life and what England was like during her time.

In PSHE, the children drew and wrote about someone they really appreciated.

Finally, in Art, the children continued to explore colour mixing. They also used paint to print with Lego bricks, which was a fun and creative way to see how colours can be layered and used in different ways.

Next Week:

English- The children will plan and write their own version of the story Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers

Maths- The children will recognise and find a quarter of an object or a shape. They will also recognise and find a quarter of a quantity.

RE- The children will discuss and write about books that are special to them
