What an amazing week we’ve had in Year 1!

Our first week of swimming has been wonderful! Every child has been in the pool, and it was lovely to see how much they enjoyed it. They’ve learned so much in such a short period of time, and it’s been wonderful to watch them gain confidence in the water. Thank you for making sure they had their swimming kits ready! Please remember to bring them in again on Tuesday for our next week of lessons

In English, the children have continued their learning based on the book Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers. They’ve been working hard on writing letters of advice to the boy from the story, offering him kind suggestions on how to he can help the lost penguin. They also created clear and helpful instructions on how to help someone who is lost. It’s been lovely to see their creativity and effort in their writing!

In Maths, the children explored making equal groups and learned about arrays and doubles. They also enjoyed putting their learning into practice with practical activities and resources.

In History, the children have been learning about the life of Queen Elizabeth II. They enjoyed discovering more about her life, her role in history, and her reign. Their curiosity was wonderful to see as they asked great questions and discussed what they had learned.

In PSHE, the children reflected on their own qualities as a person and a friend. They created fantastic ‘Incredible Me’ posters that celebrate what makes them unique and special. It’s been lovely to see them building confidence and appreciating their own strengths.

In Art, the children explored mixing primary colours. They had a fantastic time experimenting with different combinations to create new colours.

Outside, the children have been taking turns watering and caring for our flowers, vegetables, and herbs. They’re learning about responsibility and how to look after plants, and it’s been lovely to watch them get so involved in this hands-on activity.

Next Week:

English- The children create a fact-file about Antarctic creatures.

Maths- The children will make equal groups by sharing. They will then begin a new topic based on fractions. They will recognise and find a half of an object or shape.
