Hello Year One,
We have had a great week! The children have been exploring odd and even numbers this week and learnt to count in tens and fives.
We read a funny story about how to wash a woolly mammoth and the children wrote their own set of instructions on how to wash an animal of their choice!
We have been working on alien words this week and the children have made pleasing progress by breaking words down into manageable chunks when reading.
The children carried out a comprehension task and an activity which involved recognising split-vowel digraphs.
We looked carefully at a picture of a bike and explored the materials used to make it. We found that different materials were used for different reasons.
In the history lesson this week we looked at houses from medieval times to the present day. The children had to recognise the time periods that the houses came from.
Year One absolutely love parachute games and we had a great time with this on Thursday!
As it is Chinese New Year we have been listening to a variety of Chinese music and today we made up our own dance!
NEXT WEEK
English
We will be writing instructions on how to brush teeth and wash hands!
There will be a differentiated comprehension task to complete and another activity to recognise split-vowel digraphs. Next Thursday the children will produce some extended writing about their experiences in 'Year One.' They will be writing in the past tense about their experiences and memories. I will be looking for correct punctuation, use of adjectives and managing to write the whole piece in the past tense.
Maths
Next week is all about shapes! We will be exploring 2D and 3D shapes, learning the mathematical vocabulary needed to describe shapes and how to recognise the names of different shapes.
The children will also make a dragon face out of a variety of shapes.
History
We will be travelling back in time to the Victorian era and exploring their homes. We will find out what their homes were made of and look at the style of the buildings. We will look at what they had inside their homes.
PHSE
As it will be 'mental health week' next week we will be focusing on 'growing together' and there will be lots of activities to explore how we can live together happily and safely.
ART
The children will be creating Valentine Cards next week. I am sure this will be a popular activity!
I wish you all a healthy and happy weekend.
