Even though it was a very hot week, the children worked incredibly hard in Year 1. Well done, everyone!

In Maths, the children have been busy learning about time. They explored seconds, minutes and hours, thinking about which unit of time would be most suitable for measuring different activities. They also learnt to tell the time to the hour and half past the hour, using mini clocks to make and read different times.

In English, children have been practising writing sentences. They have also been learning the final Phase 5 sounds and reading in their reading groups. In handwriting, they have been practising forming letters with ascenders and descenders.

In Geography, the children explored the physical and human features of China. They enjoyed looking at a range of photographs before working in pairs to identify and name different physical and human features.

Next Week

Maths – The children will continue learning about time.

English – We will begin a new unit of work based on the wonderful book Iggy Peck, Architect by Andrea Beaty and David Roberts.

Geography – The children will be finding out what Shanghai is like.

Design & Technology – The children will begin planning their stable structures.

Reminders

Year 1 Class Assembly – Friday 3rd July

Knebworth House Trip – Monday 6th July

Notes

There are no spellings to learn this week.

We will be giving out assembly parts on Monday, and it would be wonderful if the children could practise reading their lines aloud at home. They do not need to learn them by heart. Thank you for your continued support.

The children are very excited to share their learning with you at our class assembly next Friday!

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
