Hello everyone,
It has been another busy week
in Year 1 and the children have worked so hard - well done everyone! On Monday,
we had an amazing planetarium workshop. The children thoroughly enjoyed the
experience and learnt so many fascinating facts about space.
In English, the children started a new unit of work based on ‘Leo and
the Octopus’ by Isabelle Marinov. They explored a range
of emotions and used the pronoun ‘I’ to talk and write about their feelings.
They then used imperative verbs to give advice to the character from the book.
In Maths, the
children enjoyed learning about length and height. They compared length and
height, measured using objects such as cubes and measured in centimetres.
Next Week:
Maths- The children will start
a new topic based on mass and volume. They will be exploring ‘heavier’ and ‘lighter’,
measure and compare ‘mass’ and explore ‘full’ and ‘empty’.
English- The children will write
letters of advice to the character of Leo. They will also write factual
sentences about octopuses, write questions and use the conjunctions ‘and’ and ‘but’
to compare.
Science- The children will
be planting a range of flowers and vegetables.
PSHE- The children will
learn about cleanliness to keep healthy
RE- We will be discussing
and learning about the Easter story.
Computing- The children will
continue to learn about directing a Beebot
