This week we have focused on Anthony Brown's book 'Silly Billy'. It is a story about a little boy called Bill who worries about everything. Billy is so anxious that he can't sleep. But Grandma has just the thing for a boy like Billy- worry dolls, made to do his worrying for him. That night when Billy put the dolls under his pillow, he slept like a log. Year 1 created their very own worry dolls and have shared their own feelings with others.
Phonics
This week we have focused on writing captions and making up our own sentences.
After half term we will start Phase 4 phonics and we will use our writing skills to describe pictures.
Maths
This week we have been learning addition using a number line and a dice. It would be great if the children could play some board games with a dice during the half term.
After the break we will use Numicon for addition.
The children made sure that our cress is watered each day and that it has enough sun light. It has grown beautifully and the children loved making and eating their own cress sandwiches.
To celebrate the Black History month, this week we have been learning an African call and response rhyme: Toom-bah-ee-lero which was much enjoyed by all.
Every Friday Year 1 have an assembly with Mrs Custis. This week she spoke to the children about the importance of not judging a book by its cover. She used an example of a spotty banana, which might not look very appealing to eat , but in fact it is very sweet and tasty.
Have a restful half term!
