 Dear Parents,

Welcome back to school after the Easter break! We hope you all had a restful time. The children have come back full of energy, and we are already deep into some exciting new topics.

In English, the children have been working hard with the book Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers. They’ve been asking lots of wonderful questions, using adjectives to describe characters and settings, and have been exploring tenses. We've also focused on the suffix 'ed' to help with understanding past tense words.

In Phonics, we are focusing on revising the Phase 5 sounds and tricky words in preparation for the Phonics Screening Check in June. The children have been working hard to become more confident with the different sounds, including alternative spellings, and recognising tricky words that don’t follow the usual phonetic patterns. To support this, the spellings this half term will reflect the Phase 5 sounds and tricky words

In Maths, the children have been busy counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s, and they’ve been learning how to make equal groups. It’s been a great way to introduce multiplication in a fun and practical way!

Our new History topic has sparked lots of interest as we’ve begun learning about Famous Queens. Over the next few weeks, we will explore the lives of Queen Elizabeth I, Queen Victoria, and Queen Elizabeth II.

In Science, we have been exploring the season of Spring. The children had the opportunity to observe and sketch a tree in the playground, making observations on how it differs from the trees we saw in Autumn and Winter. It was a lovely way to end the first week back.

Next Week:

English- The children will write command sentences, create a set of instructions and create a fact-file

Maths- Making equal groups, adding equal groups, making arrays and doubles.

RE- The children will learn about the Bible

History- To find out about Queen Elizabeth II and her reign.

Art- Colour mixing

Spellings for next Friday’s test are:

Group 1: day, tray, play, stray, spray, sea, bead, read, beach, reach

Tricky words: eye, said

Group 2: day, may, tray, play, stray, spray

Tricky words: eye, said

Group 3 & 4: day, may, lay, play

Tricky words: said

Reminders:

Swimming:

The children will begin their swimming lessons from Monday. These will take place daily, so please ensure that the children bring their full swimming kit to school every day. Here’s a quick checklist of what they’ll need:

  • Swimming costume
  • Swimming hat – this is mandatory. Fabric hats are often easier for children to manage but the choice is yours.
  • Towel
  • Pool shoes – for walking between the changing room and pool
  • A bag to store wet swimwear
  • Goggles – optional
  • Bath robe or dressing gown – optional

Please make sure everything is clearly labelled so we can avoid any lost property.

Sunny Weather

The weather next week is looking lovely. Please remember to send your child to school with a named sun hat and water bottle.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend
